Welcome to the SMSD Student Chamber's Business Showcase! This is an inspiring business competition designed to highlight PK-12 students who run REAL businesses in the Shawnee Mission School District. The top five business owners with the most votes and highest judge ratings will present their business ideas to a panel of esteemed judges and a vibrant audience on April 30.

Awards at the live April 30 Business Showcase are:

1st Place: $1,100
2nd Place: $600
3rd Place: $300

Students are challenged to answer the following questions with their pitch:

Part 1: Describe the problem and products/services that you are selling (including pricing).

Hi! I am a college bound high-school student who loves art and stories. Currently I am planning on starting a business this year but I may end up not. If I do launch a business I will want to do it part time so that I have time for academics and other activities.

Problème

We are selling clay earrings (and other jewelry). There will be pre made options but the main idea of this business is that people can tell me exactly what they want and I will make it. That means you give me a (pro social) description/photo/suggestion and I will use that to make your jewelry! If your prompt is overly complicated I may simplify it. My goal is to fix the fact that there are not many custom earring businesses that check every box.

Solution

My target market is young (14-22) Crafty people who are either in high school or college and moms/other 30 something year olds who have have cozy vibes in the Kansas City area or the United States.

I need to understand business laws. I think that is the main thing that is holding me back from starting my business right now. As far as requests go it could be helpful if someone knows any good resources to learn these laws.
