Semester Challenge: How will my business ensure legal compliance?
Business Law students are challenged to develop and refine a pitch explaining how their selected business will ensure legal compliance. Each student has chosen a business connected to their personal interests, which will serve as the focus of their legal study throughout the semester.
Students will build their pitches over time, demonstrating how their business will comply with relevant laws such as contracts, employment, consumer protection, intellectual property, and liability. This competition page will be used to share pitches and collect feedback and comments from classmates and community partners.
From April 20–27, students will publicly share their pitches, exchange feedback, and earn tokens. Any pitch that earns at least 20 tokens during the semester will receive a prize, allowing multiple students to succeed. Through this process, students will strengthen their legal reasoning, business planning, and professional communication skills while engaging with real-world perspectives from community partners.

I chose to create a lawn care business because I enjoy working outside, helping people, and making good money. I am a sophomore at Shawnee Mission South. I want to expand my business so that I have a company in 5 years.

My business is selling lawn care services. Given the service I'm selling, a sole proprietorship would be the best business structure because it is easiest to start. As a business owner, my duties include managing the business, providing lawn care services, customer service, equipment and safety, and marketing. My neglect could cause damage to customers' property, safety risks, financial and legal problems, and damage to my reputation.
