Welcome to the SMSD Student Chamber's Business Showcase! This is an inspiring business competition designed to highlight PK-12 students who run REAL businesses in the Shawnee Mission School District. The top five business owners with the most votes and highest judge ratings will present their business ideas to a panel of esteemed judges and a vibrant audience on April 30.

Awards at the live April 30 Business Showcase are:

1st Place: $1,100
2nd Place: $600
3rd Place: $300

My name is Jesiah Price, and I’m the founder and solo developer behind PRESOVA — a smart grocery management app designed to help users reduce food waste, save money, and plan smarter meals. I’m a senior at Shawnee Mission North High School and a proud DECA national qualifier, where I’ve represented PRESOVA at the state level and beyond.

As a student entrepreneur with a passion for sustainability, I’ve developed everything from PRESOVA’s branding and design to the pitch, target market strategy, and business model. I’ve also led a student volunteer group focused on environmental impact and community service.

Reducing Food Waste:
PRESOVA tracks grocery items and expiration dates, sending timely reminders before food spoils. The app also auto-suggests expiration dates if none are provided.

Saving Money on Groceries:
By minimizing waste, users spend less on unnecessary grocery replacements. AI- generated meal plans suggest ways to use expiring items, maximizing food usage and cutting costs.

Efficient Grocery Tracking:
Users can speak grocery items and expiration dates for easy entry. The app organizes inventory in a clear, categorized system, ensuring users always know what they have and when it expires.

To move PRESOVA forward, I need financial support to develop the app’s Minimum Viable Product (MVP), that includes core features like voice input, expiration tracking, and basic user interface design. I’m also seeking mentorship and networking opportunities with professionals in app development, marketing, and sustainability to help refine the product and accelerate growth.

Additional resources like access to workspace or a tech incubator program would also be valuable for collaboration and continued progress. With these supports, PRESOVA can move from a well-developed concept into a real, functional tool that makes a lasting impact.

While creating my pitch, it allowed me to think more deeply about my business, Presova. How I can bring it to life, what I want it to become, and the good that it can do in the world.

If I’m awarded the $1,100 prize, I’ll put 66% into MVP development — including voice input, food tracking, and core screens — and 33% into marketing, using targeted social media and micro-influencers.

This was a fantastic pitch! You showed how informed you are about the market space you are entering by understanding and adding in the gamification that comes with your mascot.

Your video is grate and shows how much work you have put in to a Cotten candy business! I did get lost when reading the written submission as it covers skin care products and not cotton candy. This discrepancy made the pitch unclear but a simple update and clarification would get you back on track in no time.
