Overview
Welcome to the SMSD Student Chamber's Business Showcase! This is an inspiring business competition designed to highlight PK-12 students who run REAL businesses in the Shawnee Mission School District. The top five business owners with the most votes and highest judge ratings will present their business ideas to a panel of esteemed judges and a vibrant audience on April 30.
Awards at the live April 30 Business Showcase are:
1st Place: $1,100
2nd Place: $600
3rd Place: $300

Dakota Brandenburg, Grade 10, Shawnee Mission West
Part 1:
Many yards are poorly maintained due to a lack of time or ability.
Customers don't have connections to young and motivated workers.
Part 2:
Reliable and affordable alternative to large companies.
Young entrepreneur with fresh energy and personal service.
Easier to schedule and communicate with directly.
Part 3:
Typically older adults and residents of the Kansas City area.
Customers who either can’t or prefer not to do their own lawn work.
Part 4:
Founder has hands-on experience in yard work and strong work ethic.
Already has a growing base of local customers and positive results.
Next Steps
The next steps I am wanting to take are financial support to buy mowers, trailer, etc I would also need a place to take.
Other Information
What went well was not much. The struggle was everything. i dlont present much so its difficult when I do.
Resource | Support Needs
Purchase better equipment for more efficient service.
Invest in marketing materials (flyers, business cards, simple website).
Build a small team for larger yard contracts.
