Competition Brief

ProX is a Real World Learning initiative providing summer professional experiences for high school students.

About

My employer is a nonprofit called Build Trybe. Build Trybe acts as a pre-apprenticeship, teaching homeless youth and kids aging out of the foster system trade skills.

Problem

The problem I am trying to solve is the lack of funding that effects the number of kids my organization can take on.

Solution

My solution is to turn Build Trybe into a Zero Waste company so that they can apply for more grants and in turn, help more children in need. This is because the more funding they have, the more mentors they can hire, which also increases the number of kids they take on.

Audience | Target Market

The main people affected by the problem are youth who are homeless and kids aging out of the foster system. Build Trybe serves kids 14 and up.

Learning Outcomes  |  Community Impact

The social impact would be that the rates of youth who are in foster and homeless will go down.

Next Steps

The next steps are to collaborate with the grant writer about what would be the best plan of action in order to obtain the Zero Waste grant.

 Reflection  |  Other Info

This work has made me realize how difficult it can be to navigate the complexities of grant writing. This has also helped me improve my perseverance.

Resource  |  Support Needs

We are not currently accepting contributions from our voters. This pitch is part of the ProX competition for $5,000. If people support this idea, we would use the funding to hire the grant writer who can help us find Zero Waste grants and work with us on completing the requirements.
