About

This pitch is an example from our initial beta test competitions. The funding amount and contributions are not actual numbers. The team and submission are real though. Create your own goal and your backers will support it! This pitch story is included below...

Channeling empathy and keeping real-world learning at its core, Startland Education brings human-centered design thinking to the classroom in order to create a Kansas City community that values our youth and inspires them as future change leaders and entrepreneurs.

Problem

In a world where staying alive means staying alone, we are isolated and afraid. While we’re managing to social distance, we have to think of the 1.5 million people in nursing homes right now. Unable to see their family or each other, they are more alone than ever. 40% of assisted living patients report severe feelings of loneliness, and 61% of surveyed teens feel lethargic or isolated.

Solution

We are Bridge, and our goal is to bridge the gap between these generations. Bridge is a website and online program that matches the elderly in nursing homes with trained teenage volunteers to allow friendly relationships by video calls. After surveying each individual for interests and personal qualities, similar teens and elderly will be matched to allow for cohesive pairings.

Audience | Target Market

Our target market includes two main groups of consumers. On one end of the application, there are the elderly and old age homes that can use these products to entertain and connect themselves to teenagers. On the other end, teenagers can use this application to gain volunteer hours while also gaining experience and knowledge from people who have more wisdom.

Learning Outcomes  |  Community Impact

There are a few societal impacts of this solution. This application impacts both the teenagers and the elderly who can use this application to connect with other people of different generations but with the same interest. It can really connect these two generations when there seems to be a large disconnect.

Next Steps

Potential issues surrounding the qualifications of volunteers and the safety of both parties require external professional resources. To assure proper management of affairs, we ask you for expertise to help build the programmatic framework of Bridge, as well as networking to spread our concept.

 Reflection  |  Other Info

Our pitch went well! Working together as a team and connecting with other teenagers and the elderly was inspiring and fun! Overall, there were a few struggles. Creating a prototype of our solution to test it out was difficult and we were only able to do this by a rough survey. Help with creating a prototype is one of the things we seek moving forward, as this was one of the problems we ran into.

You’ve done an excellent job with your FocusFlow pitch! Your ability to clearly articulate the problem and present a well-thought-out solution is impressive. The integration of the Pomodoro Technique with white noise is a smart approach, as it draws on proven methods to address common productivity challenges. Your detailed plan for moving the project forward, including market research, the development of an MVP, and strategic marketing efforts, shows a strong understanding of what it takes to bring an innovative product to market. I also appreciate your awareness of potential challenges, such as market differentiation and scalability, and your consideration of strategies to overcome them. Keep up the great work, and continue refining your strategy as you gather more feedback—your proactive approach is a key strength!

Your perspective is incredibly insightful! Highlighting the calendar as the greatest invention ever demonstrates remarkable depth. You've identified how it plays a crucial role in organizing our daily lives, influencing agricultural cycles, and shaping cultures worldwide. Your appreciation for such a fundamental concept truly reflects your keen awareness of how timekeeping structures our world. Keep up the great work, Evan!
