Competition Brief

About

Students Of Change is the leading Youth Advocate Organization in the Kansas City area empowering the next generation. Focused on empowering the youth to speak out and make change about issues that matter to them. Their goals are to make change in the KC Metro by advocating for legislation.

Problem

Housing prices are increasing and people are forced onto the streets. How might we create affordable housing in the KC metro?

Solution

To propose legislation legalizing the ability to build Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU). It will give homeowners the ability to build a second small home on their property to rent out. Creating safe, stable and affordable housing to get people out and to stay out of homelessness.

Audience | Target Market

Our target market is the 2,000+ people that are homeless in the Kansas City metro. And vulnerable low income community at-risk to losing their homes.

Learning Outcomes  |  Community Impact

This helps solve the issue that has been haunting this city for years- creating a healthier and stronger society, giving everyone the right for a happy life.

Next Steps

We would need to meet with city legislators draft an ordinance (law). As well as receive funding that would allow us to successfully market our plan to the public to gain support for the ordinance.

 Reflection  |  Other Info

We have learned so much about the city and research skills. Our work has given us a passion for helping those who need it the most.

Resource  |  Support Needs

We are not currently accepting contributions from our voters. This pitch is part of the ProX competition for $5,000. We would use funding to educate people on Accessory Dwelling Units. We would also fund our marketing plan to gain support on the ordinance, making it more likely to get passed from the public support.

Hello! I love your idea. I know young people love cotton candy and to make a product that caters to children with allergies but still allows them to enjoy a sweet treat is fun, innovative and demonstrates and amazing level of creativity and empathy. Please keep up the amazing work.
