Competition Brief

ProX is a Real World Learning initiative providing summer professional experiences for high school students.

About

NIC creates a stronger connection between the government (federal and local) and the citizens. This connection is built on developed programs and professional government services for the people. NIC's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee was established to build and support an inclusive work environment and ensure every voice is valued through education, outreach, and communities.

Problem

Although DEIC has been established for a year, they are not able to reach their goals and their employees. The problem is inadequate resources on inclusion and professional development due to the lack of initiative and communication from the committee and it impacts NIC’s inclusive culture.

Solution

We Belong is an annual virtual plan of leadership training, speaker sessions on cultural diversity, and holiday recognitions on DEI TikTok and website. It provide access to training materials and guidance during meetings to teach the skills to build and maintain an inclusive environment. It includes the recognition of 20 or more diverse holidays on TikTok and brings in diversity speakers that focus on team building, unconscious bias, stereotypes, business growth, emotional growth, etc. Not only does this satisfy 95% of employees' desire for growth opportunities, it also serves the committee’s educational purpose creatively.

Audience | Target Market

We hope to help all NIC employees even better acknowledge the similarities and appreciate differences in the work environment.

Learning Outcomes  |  Community Impact

We Belong pushes for professional growth as employees learn new skills and approaches to work. Exposure to a variety of cultures brings a unique and board perspective which gives creativity. This out-of-the-box thinking captivates new markets for the company and it improves productivity.

Next Steps

The next step is to gain approval from the executive board and take the available funds to invite diverse speakers and purchase training programs. The DEIC communications leads will customize the website and upload educational, yet entertaining videos on TikTok. The president will promote and share the DEIC website with all employees monthly to promote We Belong.

 Reflection  |  Other Info
