Ray-Pec Enterprise & Design

Competition Brief

Enterprise and Design is a program where students get regular high school credits but are earning it through client connected projects. We match them with industry professionals (clients) and they work with teams to complete real world projects with actual problems that those clients need to have solved and they come up with solutions and pitch those ideas.

About

Our team is working with the Raymore Police Department to create a bicycle safety video for Ray-Pec elementary schools.

Problem

From the surveys we sent out to the elementary schools of Ray-pec we gathered that the problem is that the kids in our community do not know the proper safety procedures of riding a bicycle.

Solution

Our solution was to create a poster pertaining to elementary students that will provide specific information regarding safety equipment, as well as a video of our team demonstrating proper bicycle safety. We would show how to correctly use hand signals, how to tell if a bike and helmet fits you, what safety equipment should be worn at specific times, and how to safely ride a bike on the road.

Audience | Target Market

With this project we were specifically targeting students, parents, and others on the road. The poster we created is very simplistic, containing minimal wording and pictures to help illustrate. In our video we will also have a song parody to help the students remember bicycle safety in a fun way.

Next Steps

Our teams next step is to contact a local bicycle shop to ask for supplies to film our video; such as helmets, bikes, reflective lights, reflective clothing, and body padding. We also plan to request help from the Raymore Police Department and Ray-Pec staff to distribute our posters in common areas of elementary schools.

 Reflection  |  Other Info

We struggled with filming conditions, working around personal lives and jobs. However, all of our team members came to an easy conclusion on designing a poster, and we all already have set positions for scripting, filming, and editing our video.

Hello! I love your idea. I know young people love cotton candy and to make a product that caters to children with allergies but still allows them to enjoy a sweet treat is fun, innovative and demonstrates and amazing level of creativity and empathy. Please keep up the amazing work.
